Wii Hasbro Family Game Night
lets you play 5 classic Hasbro board games
on the Wii plus one new one. The classics are Yahtzee, Boggle, SORRY!,
Battleship, and Connect Four. The "new game" is a new version of Sorry!
called Sorry! Sliders.
The inimitable and ageless Mr. Potato Head is your host. Although we love Mr
Potato Head and so does Dad, he sometimes become a bit annoying after a
while.
This is not an innovative use of the Wii although some of the graphics are
pretty cool. If you love these classic board games you *might* love Wii Hasbro Family Game Night, then again you might prefer playing the
originals games instead of playing them on the Wii. Some parts of some of
the games are hard to see without getting close to the TV or without a
bigscreen TV. Also some of the games are slower going on the Wii. One plus
with kids are you can't lose the game pieces are there aren't any!
Briefly the games:
Yahtzee, the traditional dice rolling and strategy game,
translates pretty well to the Wii. We're Yahtzee fans and it works well on
the Wii.
Connect Four is the checkers stacking game, where whoever
gets four of the same colored chips in a row, either horizontally,
vertically or diagonally wines wins. This works pretty well, and although
there are some enhanced ways of playing with special powered chips, we'd
rather play the board game. Not everyone agrees, and your mileage may vary.
Boggle is the word search game you might remember from your
youth, if your not still a kid, or from "King of The Hill." It just doesn't
translate well and is a pretty different game on the Wii.
SORRY! and Battleship both work well,
although some have commented that playing them on the Wii really ads nothing.
Personally, we like Battleship better in it's original form, although it's
cool on the Wii too.
Sorry! Sliders - imagine Sorry! combined with curling, if
you know what that is. A pretty cool game.
Pros: Wii Hasbro Family Game Night does a pretty good job
of translating most of these classic board games, Boggle being one possible
exception, to the Wii.
Cons: This is not an innovative use of the Wii and some
people find it boring. Many prefer to play the original games, and quite a
few people find Mr. Potato Head as the host gets annoying quickly.
Overall: Wii Hasbro Family Game Night
has mixed yet mostly positive reviews. Most people
like Wii Hasbro Family Game Night, but it's far from perfect.
