World War 2 video games are extremely popular. Very often historical topics are used as part of the gameplay or theme and storyline. World War II is the most popular world history topic used in video games. There are so many games for all platforms you are sure to recognize some.
I'm not entirely sure why World War 2 video games are so popular and there are literally hundreds of them. Maybe because there was a clear villain in World War II? Certainly everyone likes killing Nazis, and Adolf Hitler is about as evil as you can get! And these games do tend to be a lot of fun as well, although everyone will have their individual preferences.
For example the Call of Duty Series, which started in 2003, and Medal of Honor Series, which started in 1999, are extremely popular. Call of Duty is a first-person shooter game series which was originally available on the PC and later on consoles and handhelds. Medal of Honor is similarly a first-person shooter game series and available on just about any platform, for example Linux and Windows, Mac OS X, Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, GameCube, Wii, Game Boy Advance.
Besides first and third-person shooter games, there are also real time strategy games such as the Close Combat and Commando Series, real time tactics games like the Battlestations series, turn-based strategy games, air and naval simulators, and a lot more.
Most of these games run on multiple platforms, very often an amazing number, but they may be best on certain platforms so check them out first.
With that, I'm off to play Call of Duty: World at War on my Wii.
